Sikh Temple Visit

This was very informative and went well. Here's what students in Room 18 had to say about their experience...

Sikh Temple Visit
Today we went to the Sikh temple. When we got there we had to take our shoes off and wear a cloth that covers our hair. The reason for that was because we were going to sit in front of the holy book. I wanted to know why Sikh’s grow their hair.

The person that introduced us was Raj. He told us all about Sikhism and Asia. Through that time I learnt that Sikhs grow their hair so that their god can listen to their prayers better. I also learnt that there have been Sikhs in New Zealand since 1890 and they believe in equality for each other, including women.

Raj also told us what a Sikh man looks like. He has a Turban, kara (bracelet), Kesh (uncut hair), Kanga (wooden comb), Kacchhera (cotton underpants), and Kirpan (small sword).

Around us were people worshiping god and there were some people that were reading the holy book again and again. After, when we went down, we toke off our head cloths and put our shoes on. Then we headed to school after a very awesome day.
