Talofa Lava!

This week was Samoan Language Week and Room 18 made the most of it by reading about Samoan culture, making Siapo patterns, using basic Samoan greetings and sentences, and viewing and discussing Samoan myths and legends.

In maths we have started a unit on Geometry which contains a lot of topic specific vocabulary. To help us remember the new words we have drawn pictures, written definitions and even acted out short scenarios. On Friday we tried another memory trick - we made 'chatterboxes' with questions about angles, lines, and shapes and challenged each other to see who could remember the most from the week. Students had to form their own questions which is another great way to have them think deeply about their own learning.

Our inquiry into Being Friendly is continuing. This week we read about some suggestions for dealing with backstabbing. We summarised this information in groups and then each group presented theirs to the class. We discussed the information to decide if it was relevant for us at GIS and if it would help us.
