This week our learning has been situated firmly within
the context of New Beginnings. Students are undertaking Guided Inquiry where
they have formulated their own questions about New Zealand's multicultural
makeup and where New Zealand's diverse population has come from. Students have
made comparisons between their own lives and the lives of students in other
countries, they have read about what life was like for New Zealand immigrants
centuries ago, decades ago and in more recent years, and they have formed
opinions about whether New Zealand as a society has always treated immigrants
fairly. Some students have begun practical responses to the information they
are gathering as is showcased in the movie clip below. Inquiry into the concept
of New Zealand's multicultural society, and it's future, is ongoing.
Te Reo:
The students involved in
Te Reo are enjoying the opportunity to use the new kupu (words) that are
becoming part of their vocabulary and the photos below show them using these to
give directions. This game required students to use the Key Competencies of Thinking; Understanding
Language, Symbols and Text; and Participating and Contributing as
they had to listen, translate directions in their heads, move physically and
work together as a team to ensure the success of their group.
