Homework will be issued on Monday and is to be completed by Friday. Tasks will include a mix of mathematics problems and revision, reading and/or writing.
High Hopes
Did you know it is possible to estimate how tall you will be when you are an adult? To do this you will need to know the height of your parents.
Tania knows that her mother is 164 cm tall and her father is 186 cm tall. To estimate her height she must follow these steps:
- Add your mother’s and father’s height (164 + 186 = 350)
- Divide the answer by 2 (350 divided by 2 = 175)
- Subtract 6.5cm (175 - 6.5 = 168.5)
The estimate of Tania’s height is approx. 168.5cm
For boys, the first two steps are the same but in the third step you add 6.5cm instead of subtracting.
Problem 1:
Elizabeth’s parents are both tall. Her mother’s height is 183cm and her father’s height is 186cm. Can Elizabeth expect to be tall when she is an adult? Explain your answer.
Problem 2:
Using the method above, calculate your future height. Will you be tall or short? Explain your answer.
Literacy
What makes you unique?
We are all unique human beings but some of the things that make us different from others comes from our background or our family.
This week:
- Find out where your name comes from. Why did your parents choose that particular name for you?
- Record some information about your culture - traditions, religion, celebrations, family events, history…
Bring this information to use and share for Friday Block 2
