AWESOME FRIDAY !

On Friday, 11th of March, we had… a pretty good day :D

It was a downpour in the morning. That was a really ‘great’ start of the day. Everyone who came early had their umbrellas and were stuck under the roofs in front of their classes. They were waiting for the teacher to come or wait ‘til the rain would stop. We were practically soaking (and as usual most people don’t care about the harshness of the rain) and it was… rather felt like -1 degree celsius. Finally, after what seemed like infinite years, Mrs Todd arrived to save us from the wretched cold.

We went to the hall for the assembly. We sat there, expectant for the next event to happen. Then Aria and Chelsea went onstage to invite Miss Hopkins and she invited Mr. Cal Calkoen. The young man is an athlete that represented New Zealand and won NZ, Australia and Canada Championships in running in Paralympics. During his inspiring speech, he said to “Dream Big, Achieve More”. He taught us how we should dream big to lead to a big life. That we should ignore mockers and continue striving for our goal. We have to overcome the challenges we had to conquer when older. He said that we should aim for AWESOME ! His speech inspired and touched us all. The great thing about him was he was born with Cerebral Palsy. And THAT didn’t stop him pursue his passion and share his dreams to all of us. He will continue to share his awesome experiences in the pursuit for the awesome result. After that great speech, he encouraged us to ask him questions. We all learned so much about him.

Then suddenly, we heard a fire alarm. At first, we all thought it was a drill. So there was not much to get scared of. Then when we passed the Staff Room and smelt mild smoke from nearby, that’s when we really got scared. The fire came from the Staff Room ! When we assembled at the field, the teachers took the roll call and we waited (while chatting, of course). Then Mrs Chalmers told us off for being noisy in these types of situations. When I jumped up and down trying to see what’s going on, I saw firefighters at the Staff Room, so did everyone else. After we calmed down, we took a picture with Mr Calkoen (he’s probably going to post that on Instagram or his Facebook :P) and the school !

After making fingerprint artworks and team sports, it was time to head home and to the weekends… All in all we had an awesome Friday :) :D
