Coconut Ice

Mathematics is a part of our everyday lives and often it brings us sweet rewards. But, there was nothing sweeter for Room 18 today than mathematics that ended with coconut ice tasting!

First students received the recipe that listed the ingredients for one person. Then, in groups, they had to multiply the recipe to come up with the correct ingredients for 4 people.

Here is the original one person serving:


Coconut Ice for One Person

39.5g sweetened condensed milk  

1/3 Cup icing sugar
3/8 Cup coconut + 2 Tablespoons
2 – 3 drops of food colouring



Add all ingredients to the bowl. Mix thoroughly. Divide into half, colour one half with food colouring. Shape or cut into pieces. Leave to set.


Multiply the ingredients by the number of people you want to share with.
