Welcome back to school for Term 2

It's lovely to be back in class with all the familiar faces of Room 7. Everyone looks well rested and energised for a great term.

During the holidays, Mrs Todd attended a course on Brain Development and Education. She learnt a lot and is introducing the class to various ways of increasing memory and concentration to help learning.
Try this one on yourself...

Say the colour, not the word.

Week One Homework

Anzac Day:
ANZAC day is held on April 25 and commemorates the first military action undertaken by Australian and New Zealand forces in the First World War as they landed at the shores of Gallipoli in Turkey. Over 18 000 New Zealanders died in the First World War and New Zealanders have since adopted April 25 as a day to remember the sacrifice these soldiers made for their country. Since that time, the commemoration has come to include all New Zealanders whose lives have been sacrificed in later wars. They are known as fallen soldiers. ANZAC services are held across the country at the time the original troop landed at Gallipoli. Lest we forget.
  • Using a thesaurus or dictionary find a synonym for each of these words: commemorate, sacrifice, honour, loyalty, dawn, memorial and ceremony.
  • What is the meaning of the term “lest we forget”. Why is this important after so many years?
  • Write a letter to people who attend the ANZAC celebrations from the perspective of one of the fallen soldiers from the First World War.
    • How do you feel about the memory of your sacrifice being kept alive?
    • What do you want them to remember?
    • Do you want the ANZAC commemorations to continue as they are or should changes be made?

Spelling words to learn: military, Gallipoli, soldier, sacrifice, ceremony, service, dawn.
